So, we built our own “cold light” UV lamp to fix this. It focuses on curing the ink—and leaves the fabric alone.
The Secret: Curing the Ink, Not the Fabric
Here’s the thing about UV lamps—they’re not all the same. It all comes down to the wavelength. UVA (that’s 315–400 nm) is the real workhorse. It dives deep into the ink and cures it from the inside out, without scorching the surface. Then you’ve got UVB for surface-level work, and UVC, which is great for killing germs but way too aggressive for textiles. Our cold light system lives in that sweet UVA spot. But it’s not just about the wavelength. It’s about the energy. We give the ink the exact photon punch it needs to cure, but with almost none of the infrared heat that destroys fabric. The result? The print cures perfectly, and the fabric stays exactly as it is.
How We Built the “Cold”
Getting that true cold-light feel took some serious engineering. At the heart of it is a quartz tube, designed to let the UVA light through while a special coating bounces the infrared heat back inside. It’s a clever trick—the lamp itself runs hot, but the beam that hits your fabric stays cool. And we made sure it fits right into your existing setup. It uses an R7s connector, the same simple, tough two-pin setup you find on industrial gear. It handles the power without breaking a sweat. The whole thing is compact, too, so it slips into tight spaces without needing a total machine overhaul.
What It Means for Your Work
If you’re printing on heat-sensitive fabrics—think polyester, spandex blends, or anything coated—you know the stress of traditional curing. It’s a constant gamble.
