Let’s Talk About Our 80W/cm Mercury UV Lamps
If you’re running an industrial curing line, you already know that hitting the right power density is everything. That’s why we build our standard mercury lamps at 80W/cm. It’s basically the gold standard. It gives you enough UVC and UVB punch to get those adhesives and coatings to set quickly, but it doesn’t get so hot that it scorches your materials. It just works.
Why 80W/cm?
Here is the deal with the physics: we’re dealing with a lot of concentrated energy. To keep things stable, we spend a lot of time balancing the electrode spacing and the thickness of the quartz walls. If you try to cram too much wattage into a short tube, you’ll fry the end caps. We found that 80W/cm is the sweet spot. You get the speed you need for your throughput, but the lamps actually last. Plus, the cure rate stays consistent from one end of the bulb to the other. No dead spots.
Quality Glass and Your Own Branding
We use high-purity fused quartz because it lets the short-wave UV radiation slide right through without getting absorbed. And for the OEM folks? We do things differently. We aren’t just slapping your logo on a generic box and calling it a day. You tell us the length you need and which connector pins fit your housing, and we make it happen. If your specific project needs a different spectral output, we can even tweak the gas mix or the dopants for you.
The Reality of Installation
Now, here is the part where people sometimes trip up: the heat. A lamp running at 80W/cm puts out a ton of infrared radiation along with the UV. If your cooling fans are weak or your water-jackets aren’t sized right, the quartz will stress out and the lamp will burn out way too soon. It’s a headache you don’t want. To help you avoid that, we give you all the raw technical data. You can wire it up and calibrate your ballast for the exact voltage drop of your assembly. That way, when your customers turn it on, it performs exactly how you promised it would.
